Bentley had een competing with the luxury Rolls Royce until Roll Royce bought out Bentley in secret identity under the name “British Central Equitable Trust”. Walter Owen Bentley did not know at the time of the sale that this company was Rolls Royce. When the deal was complete then they revealed themselves when in 1931 they formed a new company as Bentley Motors Ltd solely owned by Rolls Royce.
Once WWII finished the production of Bentley and Rolls Royce were built in a factory in Cheshire. Slowly Bentleys started to become Rolls Royce just without the famous grille with a much smaller price tag.
By the early 1980’s sales had fallen. The company had started to fail in the 70’s with problems with the aeroplane engine development they were involved with. The car side of Rolls Royce then turned to Rolls Royce Motors Ltd and became independent. In 1980 a company known as Vickers bought Rolls Royce Motors Ltd. Vickers owned Roll Royce all the way till 1998 when he decided to sell. It looked as if BMW would buy however were out done by Volkswagen in bidding.
Bentley car hire have notable models being the 1935 Bentley 3.5 litre cabriolet the Si continental fastback coupe and the 1952 Bentley R Type. The Bentley car hire Turbo RT was another famous car under the Bentley name between 1997 and 1998. It has 400 bhp from a 6.8 litre V8. The RT is very rare, so Bentley car hire companies might have to dig deep to find one. It was the last powerful turbo Bentley and the most expensive too. It did look very different to older turbo models with sport wheels, a mesh grille and colour coded front and rear bumpers. Only 50 Bentley car hire RT automobiles were ever produced.
As for modern models, in 2005 Bentley began plans to produce a 4 seat convertible model called the Bentley Azure, as well as the Continental GT. Both models were put into production in 2006, with the Bentley Continental GT being highly successful.
Other models offered by Bentley car hire was the state Limousine offered to the queen to celebrate the golden jubilee. Also the Continental GT, the Continental Flying Spur and the Arnage are part of the same portfolio off rental options.
Future models to be available to Bentley car hire will be the new version of the Arnage. Rumours are that the car will be designed on the chassis of the next gen A8 from Audi and is expect to be released as the 2010 model. The design includes styling from the state limousine used by the queen.
In 2009 the Continental GTC and the Flying Spur are expected to under go some changes to what where made to the new continental GT such as chrome surrounds on the headlights, a new front splitter and improved performance. |
