Avis’s mission statement summarises their pledge to give their customers a first class service. Founded in 1946 by Mr Warren Avis, Avis began offering a car hire service for passengers travelling through Willow Run Airport in Detroit. Warren Avis started the trend of Car Hire available at Airports. He was the first to see the investment opportunity and launched his company with an 85,000 dollar investment.
Very quickly Warren Avis opened a second car hire operation at Miami Airport, however he soon decided to make the company brand available to others and within just seven years from conception, Avis had been franchised and new offices began to open in Europe Canada and Mexico.
By 1954 Avis was sold to A Boston financier called Richard S Robie for a huge profit of 8 Million Dollars. It was not until the Early 1960s that Avis began to open some offices in England.
Avis is now one of the World’s largest suppliers of hire vehicles, because of this point if you are visiting La Manga in Spain they are a very good company to use when hiring a car. Avis went from strength to strength and in 1977 was worth 174 million dollars when it was sold to a company called Norton Simon Inc. during this period of growth Avis became recognised as the market leader in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Every vehicle rented from Avis has a unique bar code, which, upon your return is scanned by a member of the Avis team.
